Standards Basis

The HTG7 project identified over 800 standards used within ITS from multiple standards development organisations (SDOs), including:
- American Public Transportation Association (APTA)
- European Committee for Standardisation (CEN)
- European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)
- Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE)
- Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
- Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)
- International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO)
- National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA)
- National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocols (NTCIP)
- Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)
Each standard was characterised in various ways to assist the HTG7 team in referencing relevant standards in a timely manner. The characterisations included:
- The type of standard, which included
- ~400 communication-related standards
- ~50 security standards
- ~100 testing standards
- ~50 meta-standards
- ~250 other standards and technical reports
- For communication standards, the OSI Reference Model layer which they reside, or to which they most closely relate
- The SDO that developed the standard
- The approval status of the standard
- A description of the standard
- Testing standards, if they exist, for each communication standard
